Come join the Chicago Inventors Organization to learn more about a program to provide pro bono legal services to independent inventors. Our Guest speaker will be Arthur Tan-Chi Yuan who is the director of the Chinese Intellectual Property Resource Center and an adjunct professor and director for the John Marshall Law School Patent Clinic. Yuan teaches a variety of practical patent courses at the John Marshall Law School, including Intellectual Property Survey (patent portion), Patent Attorney Opinions, Patent Planning and Practice, and Advanced Patent Clinic. He brings years of patent preparation and prosecution experiences: 6 years with intellectual property law firm Senniger Powers, LLP in St. Louis, Missouri and currently with the law firm Loeb & Loeb, LLP as a senior counsel. Arthur’s presentation will include: 1) the Patent Clinic work/submission process, 2) Patent Searching and 3) Patent Protection in general especially after the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act (AIA). The AIA represents the most significant change to the U.S. patent system since 1952. This upcoming Friday is World Diabetes Day - My office is partnering with Mercy Hospital to provide free blood glucose screenings to the public from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Branch Library (3436 South King Drive, Chicago).

Nearly 50 percent of people living with diabetes don't know they have the condition, which does not always cause obvious symptoms.

We encourage anyone who plans to get a screening not to eat anything Friday morning in order to get the most accurate results. For more information, send me an email or call (312) 949-1908.

7th Annual "Feed A Teen" Thanksgiving Dinner CNN Hero Diane Latiker: Kids Off the Block     KOB is hosting its 7th Annual "Feed A Teen Dinner", Saturday, November 22, 2014 (1:00-5:00pm) to promote higher education and non-violence among our youth... During this historical event the attending youth will enjoy a day of family, a holiday meal, entertainment, music, and special prizes.  We need your help! Our goal is to feed 1,000 teens for Thanksgiving, to give children/youth a sense of family and community and something to be thankful for. This event was started in response to the many children that came to my house on Thanksgiving Day to ask if they could share our traditional family setting and dinner because they had no one to share it with at home. So far, over 3,000 children, teens and young adults have attended this event! Funds raised by this event will enable Kids Off The Block to feed youth and their families city wide, continue to promote non-violence and advocate for higher education among our youth in Chicago IL.
